Continuous Tone Images
A Continuous Tone Image is an image that is entirely made up of differing tonalities to create a photographic image.
When scanning Continuous Tone Images that are intended for press it is important to pay attention to your
input scanning resolution. For optimal printing results, here is the rule of thumb when scanning: the
input resolution should be twice the screen frequency (lines per inch). For example; if you are silk-screening
at 85 lines per inch, you need to scan your image in at at least 170 ppi or if you are offset printing at 200
lines per inch to scan your image in at at least 400 ppi. It is also important to note that your image will
lose resolution if enlarged in your layout program. It is best to adjust the resolution and size of your image
in your rastor software. It is also crucial that the image that you are scanning is a good clean quality image!
